What Is It?

It's NOT A New Tax

A VATRE is a local school funding election that asks voters whether or not they authorize the school district to access additional local and state funding through the Maintenance & Operations tax rate.

It will NOT raise the existing tax rate, and it does NOT create new debt for Abilene ISD.

It's Access To More Funding

The measure is intended to provide AISD with more than $10 million in new annual funding to support students, staff, and schools.
The funding includes $3.7 million in local funds and an additional $6.3 million from the state.

Why It Matters

Budget Challenges

AISD has already reduced its 24-25 budget deficit by $9.5 million. The state has only increased funding by $55 per student since 2019. Rising inflation has caused budget challenges for districts statewide.

Educational Needs

If approved, the VATRE will provide the funds needed to address educational requirements, teacher recruitment, and other educational needs throughout the district.
